As you laid in your bed staring at the ceiling, you could hardly believe it; you had been married to Romano for over two years now. Everything had been going well with you and you were a happy couple…but right now you were fed up.

No; you weren't fed up with Romano. You were fed up with bed rest.

Looking down at your stomach however, you still managed to smile as you rubbed it affectionately. You giggled when you felt the little life inside kick against the palm of your hand. Yes…you were now eight months pregnant.

You remembered how it all happened. You had been married for about one and a half years and Romano was going through a very rough time. One day while he was out, you decided to surprise him with a really nice dinner when he got home. And so that's just what you did and though he didn't act all romantic about it, he was very happy that you'd done that for him…or at least that's what you thought. You hadn't been sure at the time because he just sat there rather quietly for most of the dinner.

After dinner was over you had gone to take a shower…and that's when you got your thank you. After about ten minutes of soaking under the warm water, you felt a pair of arms wrap around you from behind and a soft "thank you" was whispered in your ear. Well…things just kind of went from there and about a month later after you started feeling sickly and sleepy you took a test and found out you were pregnant with your first child.

You had been really worried about telling Romano; after all, you two hadn't been trying for a baby so it wasn't as if he were anticipating a pregnancy. You remembered how nervous you were when you told them you were going to have a baby. At first his jaw dropped and he looked positively stunned and somewhat freaked; you had almost burst into tears right then, thinking he was thoroughly displeased. You were about to walk away when you felt a pair of arms tug you close….and though he would never confess to it, you could have sworn that at that time you had felt a few warm tears drop onto your shoulder. He had been shocked for sure, but he had no problem adding another to the family….

"I wonder what you'll be…" you said, rubbing your baby bump. "Will you be a girl? Oh….maybe you'll be a boy…will you look like me or your daddy?"

You giggled and started to hum a soft lullaby to your baby to lull it out of its fit of kicking…but really you ended up lulling yourself to sleep to some degree. Just as your eyes began to flutter closed however, you felt a rush of warm fluid between your legs, soaking the sheets beneath you.

"No….no it can't be…I'm not due for another month. I…ah!!!" you screamed, holding your stomach.

Damn it. Contractions already?!

You could barely hear the sound of footsteps rushing up to your door over the sound of your screams.

"____________! What the hell is—"

Romano froze when he saw you tangled in a mess of wet sheets, holding your stomach in pain.

He couldn't believe it…the baby was this early?!

"L-Lovino! I…I need to get to the doctor!" you cried out.

As quickly as he could, Romano helped you to the car and took off for the hospital as quickly as possible. He looked over at you in worry as you gasped for breath and cried out in pain.

"R-Roma…we're going to get pulled over! Ah!" you cried.

"No we're not! Fuck it!" he shouted, speeding up even more.

Then you heard it….the police siren.

"Roma…" you panted.

"Fuck!" shouted Romano, speeding up more.

"Lovi! What the hell are you doing?!"

Romano could hear the siren behind him….oh those fuckers…like hell he was gonna stop. Sticking his hand out the window, Romano ever so gracefully extended his middle finger and continued driving you to the hospital.

Once there, Romano helped you out of the car and began to guide you to front doors. Looking behind him, he saw a stunned cop standing outside of his car.

"She's having a baby damn it!" Romano snarled before taking you inside.

After much stress and bustling about, you were finally admitted to a room where doctors would be with you shortly.

You took this time to look at Romano in fear as tears streamed down your cheeks. "Roma…our baby is early…" you choked out.

His eyes softened and he brushed some hair from your face. "Hey, it'll work out." He assured you.

Yes…he was assuring you but on the inside he was actually frightened himself. His baby was coming early…would it really be alright? His baby was most likely going to have to go to the NICU after birth. What if it came out severely underdeveloped or what if his baby wasn't breathing…..what then?

His thoughts were interrupted when several doctors came into the room; that and your screaming was getting harder and harder to ignore.

"Hello Mrs. Vargas; can you tell me how many weeks you are?" a woman asked.

"Thirty-three weeks!" you screeched.

The woman had obviously been confronted with this before as she continued to work through everything with you perfectly calm.

It had now been 4 entire hours of hard labor and you felt like dying…and you weren't the only one. Despite Romano's pride and attitude, he was showing more and more worry over you as he stroked your sweat soaked hair and tear-stained cheeks.

"Mrs. Vargas, you're ready to push now." The doctor told you.

You looked up at her helplessly. You had to push now? After all of this…you were so tired…

"I…I can't…" you panted.

The doctor was about to say something, when Romano held your face for you to look at him.

"____________, you have to try." He said.

"I can't do it. It's too much…you have no idea how tired I am." You breathed.

Romano growled. "You're right; I don't understand!"

Both you and the doctor looked absolutely alarmed by Romano…but nevertheless, you listened.

"But that doesn't mean you can just quit. You're not the quitting type…..and it's my baby too damn it….ok…" he finished, his eyes hiding behind his bangs.

Despite your pain and exhaustion, Romano's words had somehow given you new strength.

"Roma…" you breathed, grasping his hand. "I can do it."

You could feel him tighten his grip around your hand in return as you finally looked to the doctor for further instruction.

"Alright, now can you try and push for me?" the doctor asked.

You nodded tightly.

"Alright, you're going to push and hold it for ten seconds alright?" she continued.

Once again all you could do was nod.

Finally you were given the cue to push…

"AAAAH!!!!" you screamed as a new wave of pain wracked your entire body. Still though, you held on…

"That was great! A few more just like that one!" the doctor encouraged.

So you did. You were overwhelmed and in intense pain. You didn't give a shit about the doctor's words. The only thing you were focused on was being able to hold your child in your arms.

"Once more!" The doctor instructed on your tenth push.

You screamed and pushed one last time….but it was all worth it. The moment you felt the pressure in your lower regions end, you heard a shrill cry that brought tears to your eyes. It was your baby…

"Well would you look at him! He doesn't look like a preemie at all!" the doctor laughed happily while cutting the umbilical cord.

"H-he?" you panted.

"Yes! You have a baby boy! Congratulations!" the doctor chirped handing you a tiny bundle of blankets…your baby.

The moment your hands touched your bundle of joy, its tears ceased…but yours had only just begun to flow.

Romano moved to sit behind you so that he could hold you closely and see his newborn son…

"A boy…" he said quietly, looking down at the small child.

"Hello baby…I'm your mommy…." You whispered, stroking the child's cheek.

"She's got that lovely complexion of yours…" you said looking to Romano.

"But hair like yours…" Romano added, brushing a few of the baby's (color) hairs from his face.

You giggled. "Baby, can you open your eyes?"

Almost as if he understood you, the baby lazily parted his lids to look at you with those familiar, gorgeous golden-brown orbs….

"Look whose eyes he has…" you smiled.

Then your emotion switched from peace to anxiety as your eyes darted to the doctor.

"M-my baby…you're not going to take him are you?" you asked nervously.

The nurse smiled at you. "He looks very healthy, but we will need to do a few quick tests…alright?"

You were unsure but still you nodded and handed off your baby. You watched in amazement at just how protective Romano already was of the newborn; his eyes locked onto the nurse who carried your child away…

You looked at Romano with tired eyes.

"Hey…it's probably going to be a few hours…you should sleep." Romano said.

"B-but…the baby…." You whispered.

Romano rolled his eyes and rested you down. "Hey…I'll stay awake and wait. I'll wake you up if something happens. You…you don't have to do anymore stupid…" he said, with his voice cracking at the end.

Then you could have sworn you saw one bead of moisture fall from his right eye before he turned around.

"Lovino…are you…crying?" you asked, touching his arm.

"Shut up…I…I'm allowed to be happy every now and then right?" he grumbled.

You smiled softly. "Lovino…look at me…" you whispered.

Slowly, Romano turned around with a pout on his face, trying to look annoyed, but the happy tears that stained his cheeks told the truth about how he was really feeling.

You smiled pulled him down to you. "I love you…" you said.

"Ti amo." He said, leaning forward to push his lips against yours.

After your brief kiss, Romano wordlessly tucked the covers around you. "Now get some sleep." He said, looking at you.

Finally you managed to smile weakly before drifting away.

Romano watched you with softened eyes as he sat down next to you. "Stupid girl…scaring me like that….you….you're going to be a great mother."

As promised, the nurse came back in a few hours, which cued Romano to bolt up from his chair and rush over to the nurse.

"He's fine…he's just fine…however, you're very lucky. Most preemies like this one have to stay for a month at least…but in rare cases like this little guy, it all works out. You've got a real fighter there…" the nurse said, stepping aside to allow the doctor to hand the newborn to Romano.

Once the baby landed in Romano's arms, it opened its eyes to look at him. Their matching eyes met and in that moment the baby laughed. Romano couldn't help but smile at the child in his arms…it was really his…

Stepping over to the bed, he nudged you. "Hey ___________; wake up." Romano urged.

Almost as if you had been waiting to be cued awake, your eyes opened rather easily. "Roma? I-is the baby ok?!"

Romano smirked. "He looks fine to me." He said, passing the baby boy to you.

You held your child closely and laughed with a few tears when his little hand couldn't even entirely wrap around your index finger.

"So what are we going to name him?" Romano asked you.

You blinked a few times and smiled. "___________. Well name him __________ Vargas." You said with a tender smile.

Romano smiled at you and the baby. "__________....let's go home…"

After a few stops in the hospital to check you out properly, all three of you went out to the car, ready to go home as a new family. You were about to get into the car when you noticed Romano's face. He looked…angry?

"Lovino?" you questioned, walking over to see what the problem was.

That's when you saw it….a speeding ticket taped onto the windshield. Oh that fucking cop….that stupid—

Before either of you could start ranting, your child began to take in small, sudden, gasp-like breaths, one after another.

"What's happening?!" you panicked.

Then you understood…he was just going to sneeze…

"Ah…ah…ah..chigi!" the baby sneezed.

Now at that you couldn't help but laugh and forget your anger…and though it was hard to believe, even Romano managed to cool down enough to fold up the ticket and hop in the car with you.

Even though both of you had only just met your son, you were both already in love with him….

Once you got home, all three of you went into your bedroom and laid down on your bed. You maneuvered your bodies in a way so that the baby could rest in both of your arms without getting crushed.

As the two of you drifted off to sleep along with your child, only one thought filled both of your minds.

'I love both of you more than anything…'
