A sixteen year old Marie gazed down worriedly at a sleeping sliver haired boy. He had gotten injured out on a mission, and was now in the infirmary. His complexion was already pale but now it was almost as white as the sheets.
Stein….hang in there…
She had been worried from the very beginning; about that mission that he and Spirit had taken. She had even said that it was going to be too difficult, even for a meister as amazing as Stein. But still they had left, and she had been so frightened. She had constant anxiety over what might happen while he was gone. Her friend Azusa had told her to stop worrying about it, but Marie just couldn't.
Then…she had been right; Stein was hurt. They had completed the mission but only moments after the enemy was defeated, Stein collapsed from blood loss. He had suffered multiple puncture wounds and lacerations from the damn thing.
Marie had cried when she first saw him. His chest rose and fell just barely and it happened so slowly that one might have thought he was dead. His mouth hung open slightly and his eyes were closed. She had panicked and screamed; she thought he was dead.
I don't know what I would have done if Stein had died. I don't think I would be able to live. I wish I could have been there…I wish that I could have stopped them from ever leaving. I wish I could tell Stein how I feel about him…but I can't say it…I know what he'd say…Stein, it's been two days; why won't you wake up? You have to wake up Stein…because I need you….
Tears began to well up in Marie's eye again as she gazed at the man she was in love with. Suddenly the tears stopped flowing as Marie reached out her hand and delicately stroked Stein's cheek with her fingertips.
Such a beautiful face and soft skin…
Her hand then moved to his hair. She combed her fingers through it affectionately, and managed a sad smile.
His hair is so soft…
Her cheeks turned a soft pink; just barely visible as her heart urged her to make the next move.
Marie's eyes became half lidded as she slowly leaned her small frame down. Her face slowly approached his….she could feel his breath on her face…
Just for a moment…just this once…
Her lips were so close to his, ALMOST touching, when….
"Nnngh…." Came the soft sound from the meister.
Marie yelped in surprised and fell backwards onto the floor, but recovered quickly and bolted upright.
"Stein, are you there?! Can you hear me?" Marie asked quickly, as she grabbed one of his hands.
She watched as he struggled to open his tired eyes, and finally succeeded, revealing those beautiful olive green eyes that Marie had fallen in love with.
"Stein…you're awake." Marie breathed with a relieved smile.
"Marie…" Stein said weakly. "How long have I been here...?"
"You've been asleep for two days…two days…two…" Marie sniffed.
Stein looked at her in confusion. He was exhausted, but he was still aware enough to see that Marie was upset.
"Thank goodness…thank goodness you're back!" Marie finally cried.
She collapsed onto him and hugged him as much as she could in his current lying down position. She cried onto his shoulder.
"I…I was so worried…are you really ok? Are you going to be alright….?" She whimpered.
"Marie…" he sighed. He never understood why she worried and cared about him so much. Nobody ever really concerned themselves over him, so why would somebody as bright and smiley as Marie stop and care?
"You don't need to get so upset…" Stein said looking down at the crying golden haired girl.
She raised her head to look down at him.
"Y-you mean you're ok now? You won't…go away?" she asked, while attempting to smile.
"I'll be fine…" he told her. Suddenly Stein made an odd sort of face.
"Wh-what is it? Are you alright?" Marie asked sweetly.
"Yes, it's just that I had this odd dream just before I woke up…" Stein said absentmindedly, as he tried to figure his own dream out.
"What was it?" Marie asked curiously.
"I was laying down in a bed like this and all of the sudden a blonde girl started leaning down toward my face." He said confusedly.
Marie's eye widened and her face flushed.
"I couldn't see her face, because it was blurry, but she was…trying to kiss me I think." He finished.
"T-tea…" Marie muttered.
"What?" Stein asked raising an eyebrow.
"Tea! I-I'll go get us some tea! Tea would be so nice right now ha ha! Ummm don't go anywhere or think about that weird dream! I'll ummmm be back!" Marie said clumsily before running out of the room.
"That was weird…Marie is weird…but still…even for someone like me…she cried…" Stein said just above a whisper.
He let a small smile creep onto his face, as he closed his eyes.
If anyone could make him smile, it was Marie.
