Yeah this is pretty much just a pointless rant.

About my discontent with the way people either perceive or portray the characters of Hetalia. What do I mean? By perceive I mean the way people take in and understand the characters. Portray? I am talking about the way people write them in fanfiction. Now my rant shall begin highlighting individual characters from the Allied and Axis powers.

America:

God I REALLY hate so many misconceptions surrounding this character. People seem to push that America is nothing but a pushy, wild, and self-centered individual who is just a little goofy off to the side. I can't tell you how many fanfictions I've read or comments I've heard people make about this character that completely FAIL to recognize America's deep levels of compassion, sweetness, selflessness, care, and sometimes even insecurity and nervousness. I also REALLY hate how some people portray Alfred in fanfiction as some kind of man whore who has fucked a million girls and the reader is just another one of those and he's gonna just show her "how sex is done." ok. The America I'VE seen is not like that. In fact, him being a virgin would not be shocking to me. Why is it that just because someone is outgoing individuals IMMEDIATELY categorize them as having sexual experience. You see someone who's a wallflower and shy and you think "virgin" but someone is extroverted and confident and you think "whore". I personally get a lot of this bullshit on my own behalf. Because I am outgoing and fun people think automatically I'm sexually experienced when in reality I'm a virgin. I know plenty of reserved individuals who have had sex before (not dissing them just trying to explain something here). Anyway I feel like people fail to recognize the true tragedy and tenderness and deep emotion of America...I also think he's a pretty damn smart and thoughtful person! He just doesn't always know how to express himself in the best way. But aren't a lot of people like that?

England:

This is a character I can't wait to write for because I think that out of all the Hetalia characters England is one of the most often OOC written ones in stories. Oh how often I see the "emo" England or the "tragically depressed beyond repair" England. Oh and then I get "constantly cheerful" England....uh what? Or the overly gentlemanly England who is perfect all the damn time and has absolutely no attitude or anxiety about him. And then there's even the wild and footloose and seductive cat like England I've seen! Or the asshole 24/7 England! For some reason once the word "fanfiction" mixes with "England" the word "Tsundere" flies right out the window and into the pond of "forget-that-shit-ness." The way I see England is definitely perfectly described as tsundere. I'm not saying he can never stray from that general persona but it is his main way of being. I fail to understand why all these "faces of England" as it were, have been created. I think it's in part to satisfy different fetishes and tastes for fans out there but then why not just find a different character who fits your taste! If you want giddy and cheerful then like Italy! If you want someone super confident and intense then be into Prussia! Don't try to alter an already existing character. The way I look at England I see someone who is a lovely balance of awkward asshole-ness and this really warm inner glowing kindness. I feel like England could be such a lovely character to read on but people just have to make him all Mary-Jane on our asses. Dude...one last thing...where has this "whore" England come from? You know the one who has apparently fucked over 9000 women in the past week? I've been reading a lot of those! ...what?

France:

I'm gonna cut to the chase. France is NOT a rapist. France is NOT a pedo. France is not some complete man-whore loser who pressures someone into sex. I know this how? Because I've been molested as a child. I've been raped. I know what a rapist looks like. I know what a sick person looks like and let me tell you it is NOT France. WHY do people fail to see that France is a humorous, gentle, very emotional, sentimental, companionship-seeking, compassionate individual? I feel like people are only just now STARTING to MAYBE be open to that because of some of the Beautiful World episodes. But for goodness sake the fact it has taken people that long...*rolls eyes* France is honestly one of my favorite characters in the entire series. He has a HELL of a lot more depth to him than people give him credit for. And the way people write him too...*sigh* as some sex hungry bastard who is just WAITING for the reader to spread her legs? I don't think so. The France I see is a man who, when he truly loved a woman, would do ANYTHING for her. He would love her for exactly who she was inside and out and would feel an undying devotion toward her, not a desire to just fuck her.

Russia:

Russia is nothing but a creepy dipstick who likes to be sadistic right? Ok wrong. Russia is nothing but an emo who is lonely all the time and has no identity and is in desperate need of ridiculous gushy over the top love in order to repair his wounded soul. NO. This is one of the most commonly misunderstood characters to me and in part I suppose it's because, well in my opinion, there needs to be more Russia in the show. I can't tell you how many more times I thought that I could use a little more Russia in the show! I wanted to see backstory! I wanted to see more of the things he enjoys and how he feels! Do I feel like Russia is wounded to some degree? Yes. But you know, I also see a surprisingly balanced man! There seems to be this misconception that Russia needs the reader to help him find his identity or some shit. I think Russia damn well knows who he is and is content with it! And you know? So am I. I like Russia the way he is. I see a guy who is a little creepy and socially awkward but hell who wouldn't be after all the shit he's been through. I think he's a balanced guy who could benefit from some socialization. He's just a little lonely is all but I don't think it makes him freakishly dysfunctional. I also don't understand "violent sex" Russia that I read in so many stories. The way I look at Russia is some much more than a tall guy holding a water pipe. This guy is PASSIONATE and highly protective over the things he holds dear! Russia puts his mind to something and sticks to it. I also feel like Russia has a lot of sentiment to him; I think he's sentimental as a person and treasures certain things very highly. I say all that to say that I believe if he had someone he loved in his life, his goal would be to keep that treasure safe and treat it well and give that individual the affection he didn't get to have. He would want to nurture and not harm what he loved. But I also don't see Russia as this frilly girly super romantic fluffle-bomb that people sometimes make him out to be because I mean...come on...

China:

Now THIS is another character there is not enough of in the series! Where the hell is China! *sigh* stepping away from that I feel like people either place China in the "dick" category or "wonderful father and delightful guy" category....in reality...he's kinda both. I see a lot of China that is a whiney little bitch. I mean let's be real. That's how he is a lot of the time. But there's a surprisingly kind and mature side to China that I feel makes him a very special character with a lot of sweetness. He has talent and is a little prideful but I feel a lot of that is because he just wants people to recognize him as a valuable and important person because he indeed is. I guess I just wish people wouldn't either see no flaw in this guy or think that he's nothing but useless dickishness. And I really don't understand the fanfics where China is frisky during sex....uh...ok can anyone honestly see him being some wild thing in bed?

Germany:

I really fail to see why people misinterpret Germany as often as they do. It's like people can't multitask when it comes to taking in all different aspects of a character! Like is it THAT hard to see that Germany is very organized and strong but ALSO tender and a little bashful and unsure? I feel like people can only highlight one part of him or the other! Actually when I look at Germany I see him as being one of the more sensitive characters in the show. He just expresses it differently. Ok and we have to cover the sex topic. Do I see Germany taking out whips, chains, and gags for his true love on their FIRST TIME? NO. Germany has a LOT of respect and dignity and on top of that, let's remember that he IS kind of unsure and bashful at times, and as we all know he is very protective of what he cares about. So understanding all of those things can I honestly envision him whipping the woman he loves on their first time? Of course not! Is there anything wrong with his kinky interests. No! I think they're fine! But I just don't see him doing that the first time around. I honestly see Germany blushing and feeling a little awkward and unsure how to express himself in a sexual situation. I don't think he'd be like that the entire time and he'd have confidence as well but I still see that little pink blush on his cheeks when I envision him in my mind. I also think people tend to confuse disciplined with being a dick. Germany wants to live well and do things well and therefore he tries to execute things in a efficient manner using discipline...*sigh* But I also don't see Germany as nothing but sugar and marshmallow fluff. I think he's a good balance between the two.

Japan:

STOP making Japan some kind of wild man in bed who brags about how many chicks he's banged or girls he's dated. In what universe is that how Kiku is? I think anyone who isn't trying to fulfill an audience's fetish can understand how Japan would truly behave in a sexual situation or in just a dating situation for that matter. I feel like Japan gets written like a lot of England stories do. There are all these "faces of Japan" if you will. This giddy Japan. Sexy, wild Japan. Or even this overly boring Japan. Japan isn't boring...he's just very collected. And he has shown himself in the series to be quite interesting if you're willing to look past his typical collected nature. I don't know why but I feel like people have made a lot of weird conclusions about Japan. I think they try to make him into something more than he is sometimes which doesn't make sense to me because I think he's fine the way he is right now! ...romantic, flowery Japan....*shudders*

Italy (North):

This is a character that I feel like is SO EASY to understand and yet people don't seem to take him that way. I find it very difficult to find a decent Italy reader insert. Either he's acting like a pervert or he's acting too over the top. Italy is a giddy and energetic guy but he can be really deep and sweet when he wants. If he loves someone he's going to know when to slow the fuck down and adjust the mood. I also really don't understand all of this Italy HATE that I've seen floating around. Italy is useless? Well you know what? I guess it depends on what you define as useless. Because if you ask me, Italy does a hell of a lot. And you know what? I also see Italy as being incredibly strong. I was talking to a girl once who kept ranting about how pathetic he was but I said that I think he's one of the strongest characters in the show. From the time he was little he got picked on, kicked around, and experienced so much loss. He knew he wasn't physically strong or as brave as others. But you know what? Despite all of that he kept on trying and never gave up. He always smiled anyway and stayed kind and loving. How many people can say they've done that? There aren't a whole lot of people who went through all that kind of shit and then came out smiling and still treating everyone with kindness and affection...still viewing the world as a wonderful place. I think that's amazing. I think that's real strength. *sigh* I guess outside of that I feel like people just generally have a hard time capturing Italy in fanfics. Like Germany I feel people fail to bring light to each part of his personality and who he is...and then of course there's the whole making Italy into some kind of man-whore deal but I won't even go into that...

So yeah I know that was long and all but I just had to get it out somewhere. There are plenty more characters I could rant all day about but I'll stop here lol. I hope you're all doing well! I love you! Haha and feel free to rant below if you should so desire.
